Underfloor Heating Screed Installation in London & The South East
Advantages of Underfloor Heating Screed
Underfloor heating screed is a specially formulated material designed to enhance the performance of underfloor heating systems. Unlike traditional sand and cement screeds, underfloor heating screed is engineered to provide superior thermal conductivity and flow characteristics, allowing it to evenly distribute heat across the floor surface.
This type of screed is typically applied in a thinner layer, which not only reduces the overall weight but also accelerates the drying time, enabling quicker installation of floor coverings. The self-levelling properties of underfloor heating screed ensure a smooth, flat surface that is ideal for various flooring types, making it a preferred choice for modern construction and renovation projects.
Why choose Flow Screed Services for Underfloor Heating Screed?
- Enhanced Thermal Conductivity: Underfloor heating screed is specifically designed to improve heat transfer, ensuring that warmth is evenly distributed across the entire floor surface, enhancing comfort and energy efficiency.
- Self-Levelling Properties: This type of screed flows easily to fill in gaps and create a smooth, flat surface, eliminating the need for extensive manual labour and ensuring a high-quality finish.
- Thinner Application: Underfloor heating screed can be applied in thinner layers compared to traditional screeds, reducing the overall weight and making it suitable for upper-floor installations.
- Rapid Drying Time: Designed to dry faster than traditional sand and cement screeds, underfloor heating screed allows for quicker project completion and earlier installation of floor coverings.
- Compatibility with Various Floor Coverings: This screed provides an ideal base for a wide range of floor finishes, including tiles, vinyl, and carpets, ensuring versatility in design options.
- Reduced Risk of Cracking: The formulation of underfloor heating screed minimises shrinkage and cracking during the drying process, resulting in a more stable and durable floor surface.

Our company has been providing screed and related services for a number of years. Our expertise means you don’t have to worry the project will be completed on time and to budget.
What is Underfloor Heating Screed?
Underfloor heating screed offers many advantages which are: uniform room temperature, comfort, safety and space saving. Also, underfloor heating is well adapted to all forms of energy production: particularly renewable, low temperature systems, such as air and ground source heat pumps.
Drying times
Drying time for a screed is approximately 1mm per day, up to 40mm. Beyond 40mm, 0.5mm per day. Underfloor heating, may also be used to reduce the screed drying time you can put the underfloor heating on after 7 day to help speed up the drying time to 2mm per day up to 40mm. After 48 hours, the building must be properly ventilated.
Our flowing screeds – Gyvlon Screed THERMIO+ or CLASSIC when combined with low temperature underfloor heating achieves maximum comfort and energy savings. Our screeds offer many advantages over a traditional cement based screed:
- increased conductivity
- faster room heating and cooling
- homogeneous heat delivery
- better heating efficiency
Gyvlon Screed THERMIO+ has been specially designed to deliver a higher guarantee of thermal performance. THERMIO+ allows you to get to improve your floor heating by:
- Performance: up to 30% increase in thermal emission coefficient for maximized performance of underfloor heating
- Comfort: up to 80% thermal diffusivity for a more responsive rise in temperature
- Cost savings: up to 8% savings on the heating bill
Common Questions About Underfloor Heating Screed
People often ask whether they can use traditional screed with underfloor heating. You can, but you’re not getting the best from your system. The improved conductivity and complete pipe coverage of liquid screed makes such a difference to performance that it’s worth the investment. When you factor in energy savings over the life of the system, liquid screed pays for itself.
Another common question is about cracking. Liquid screed has minimal shrinkage compared to traditional methods, which means less risk of cracks during drying. We also install movement joints where needed, particularly in larger areas or where you’re meeting different floor constructions.
Timing is always a concern on building projects. When can you walk on it? When can floor finishes go down? For our standard liquid screed, you can walk on it after 48 hours. Floor coverings depend on the type – tiles can often go down sooner than wood or carpet, which need lower moisture levels. We’ll give you specific guidance based on what you’re installing and the screed depth.
Why Choose Us for Underfloor Heating Screed
We’ve installed liquid screed over underfloor heating systems in hundreds of properties across Surrey, London, Hampshire and Berkshire. From small domestic extensions to large commercial developments, we understand how critical it is to get the screed right first time. There’s no second chance once it’s down.
Our team knows underfloor heating systems inside out. We work with all the major pipe manufacturers and can advise on the right screed specification for your particular system. If you’re at the design stage, we’re happy to consult with your heating engineer to ensure everything’s coordinated properly.
We keep sites clean and work efficiently around other trades. When we’re done, the area is ready for the next contractor to move in. No mess, no delays, just professional screeding that lets your project keep moving forward.
