Fast-Drying Screed
Advantages of Fast Drying Screed
In the construction industry, time is money. To maximise the profitability and to remain within your budget it is vital to stay on top of time consuming tasks. The laying of screed has traditionally been a long term endeavour, tying up construction until the surface is suitable for load bearing.
With new formulations of fast-drying screed and the expertise of Flow Screed Services, we can dramatically reduce the drying time and as such reduce labour costs of your project.
Why choose Flow Screed Services for Fast Drying Screed?
- Accelerated Drying Time: Fast drying screeds are formulated to dry much quicker than traditional screeds, allowing for the installation of floor coverings in as little as 24 to 48 hours.
- Early Strength Development: These screeds rapidly develop strength, enabling earlier foot traffic and load-bearing activities, which is beneficial in commercial and industrial environments.
- Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of applications, fast drying screeds can be used in bonded, unbonded, and floating screed systems, as well as with underfloor heating.
- Reduced Risk of Moisture Issues: The accelerated drying process minimises the risk of moisture-related problems, such as mould growth and adhesion issues with floor coverings.
- Improved Project Scheduling: By shortening drying times, fast drying screeds enhance project scheduling and efficiency, allowing subsequent trades to commence work sooner.
- Minimal Shrinkage: These screeds are designed to reduce shrinkage during the drying process, resulting in a more stable and durable floor surface.

What is Fast Drying Screed
The recommend British Standard 8203 screed drying time; 1 day per 1mm of thickness up to a maximum of 40mm of thickness, and an additional day for every additional 0.5mm of thickness. However, our fast-drying screed is specially formulated for quicker results, minimising disruption to your construction schedule. The surfaces of our floor screed can be walked on or bare light loads within 24-48 hours. This allows construction to continue much more quickly than with traditional screeds or floor finishes, reducing labour costs and keeping your project within budget. Depending on your needs and budget we can advise on the estimated drying time to ensure we deliver the solution that is right for your needs.
In commercial settings, a minimum thickness of 40mm of screed is recommended. For domestic applications a minimum thickness of no less than 35mm should be applied. The surface finish of Gyvlon bonded self-levelling concrete is auto levelling, and will meet the surface regulation classification 2 for normal standard accuracy floors. For further levelling we offer a range of levelling compound solutions. More information can be found on our levelling floor screed page.
