What is Fast Drying Screed

Fast drying screed is a specialised type of floor screed that incorporates additives to accelerate the hydration and curing processes, allowing it to dry more quickly than traditional sand and cement screeds. This type of screed is often ready for light foot traffic within a few hours and can accept floor coverings much sooner than standard screeds, making it a preferred choice for projects requiring a quick turnaround.

How long does screed take to dry?

The recommend British Standard 8203 screed drying time; 1 day per 1mm of thickness up to a maximum of 40mm of thickness, and an additional day for every additional 0.5mm of thickness. However, our fast-drying screed is specially formulated for quicker results, minimising disruption to your construction schedule. The surfaces of our floor screed can be walked on or bare light loads within 24-48 hours. This allows construction to continue much more quickly than with traditional screeds or floor finishes, reducing labour costs and keeping your project within budget. Depending on your needs and budget we can advise on the estimated drying time to ensure we deliver the solution that is right for your needs.

In commercial settings, a minimum thickness of 40mm of screed is recommended. For domestic applications a minimum thickness of no less than 35mm should be applied. The surface finish of Gyvlon bonded self-levelling concrete is auto levelling, and will meet the surface regulation classification 2 for normal standard accuracy floors. For further levelling we offer a range of levelling compound solutions. More information can be found on our levelling floor screed page.
